Ceramic drawing and printing Ceramic drawing and printing, also known as ceramic design or slip trailing, is a traditional technique used to create motifs on ceramics. In this process, liquid clay (slip) is applied to a surface using various drawing and printing tools, such as brushes, stamps, or combs. Ceramic drawing and printing have been traditional crafts for centuries, particularly in Asia. Motifs, such as intricate designs and patterns, have been created using this technique to adorn ceramics. Ceramic drawing and printing allow artists to experiment with various design elements, such as lines, shapes, and patterns, which are essential components of motifs. These designs can be symmetrical or asymmetrical, geometric or organic, and can vary in size. One of the key characteristics of motifs is pattern repetition, which can be achieved through ceramic drawing and printing. By repeating a design element or motif, artists can create intricate patterns that add visual interest to ceramics.
